Work as the source of Fulfillment in Life
We all aspire to enjoy a good quality of life. But how do we know the quality of our life ??? Does it mean more money and higher status of living with a big house, big car, fat salary, expensive clothes ?? Does it mean professional success with a huge reputation and social prestige ??? Does it mean an active lifestyle with healthy body and mind ????
In recent past, I never cross a single person with above attribute and saying he/she is living a qualitative life. People having attained these materialist and societal success are often following the success parameters of others and when reaches there find it hollow. The sense of fulfillment is often lacking as what they had been chasing was someone else's definition and dream.
The what is the real measure of the quality of life. I feel that there are only two tests.
1. In your company or affinity, people should feel empowered and happy.
2. In your absence, they should be happy by remembering the good moments spent with you.
I think, fulfillment in life comes from connection with people and environment around us. But very often we are so obsessed with our work that we start treating our colleagues like kickbacks. This makes the very purpose of work a stressful process resulting in achieving timelines but with hollowness.
I think, in the 21st century, the rise of energy man is the rise of consciousness with this sense of fulfillment. A conscious effort of achieving results in professional life but without compromising the human dignity of others is the starting point of improving your quality of life.
If we are not happy while working, the work itself is futile. Work should be fun, a journey we all enjoy to achieve desired results with continuously improving our professional skills and sense of fulfillment. Work is worship where we all grow together and not one at the expense of others.
Happy Working to All

The Joy of Work
Develop the right attitude towards your job and even the most mundane work becomes a source of joy - The Song of the Lord
The
modern materialistic world sees work as a contract between the employer
and employee, where the employee delivers his services ( time, skills
etc) against the paid compensation. This understanding of job as a quid
pro quo scenario is the source of all stress in life. Each side, by
virtue of prominence of this bargaining power in the organization, tries
to extract the maximum for himself and peers. The entire workplace and
hence the career becomes the zero sum game, where one group of people
can grow only at the expense of others.
However, the reality of work and workplace is far different and joyous from this conventional viewpoint of zero-sum game. One, for humans
work is not only a source of taking care of our physical and
financial needs but it is about deriving fulfillment through creating
value for others. Work is an opportunity where we do something relevant
for others and which adds to our purpose for being here. Two, work is an opportunity for us to connect to the larger group of people, outside our immediate circle of family and friends. Three,
work is an opportunity to learn something new that enhances our
understanding about the world around us. Work, if taken in this positive
spirit, is the biggest source of learning in life.
In
totality, a more positive attitude towards work and workplace helps us
to derive the joy of life. Once we have this attitude, we can derive
happiness from mundane work like delivering letters or receiving
telephone calls. With positive attitude, every piece of work is an
opportunity to connect with others in more fulfilling ways, to create
something worthwhile for people around us and to derive the joy of
everyday life.
Creating,
joy at work is all out developing positive intention and attitude
towards others and self. It is all about seeing the wholeness of life,
where everything and everyone exist for a purpose. Down below are
listed some of the ways to derive the joy from work :
a. See the purpose of your work and workplace
- Every organisation exists for a purpose. In a fast-changing energy
world, the role of organization is continuously changing. We must have
the skills to see this changing role and nature of your workplace. When
your work culture and practises are aligned with the role of your
organizations, adaption to change becomes smooth.
b. Trust people around you in the first place, unless you have experiences of different initiatives
- People, by nature, are trustworthy. Nobody wants to see himself as
the villain in life. We, in many a cases, judge our colleagues
and employees by the standards and experiences of other. This is like
seeing the world with red glasses and then saying that the entire world
has gone red. We must develop the habit of seeing as they are, like us.
If we practice, the art of giving what we want for ourselves, the joy of
work is multiplied many times.
c. Communicate and coordinate with open heart and mind
- Man is a social animal and real & open communication is the
key to satisfying our social instincts of being loved and cared for.
There is no need for manipulation in communication as 99.99% we are
same. Open communication leads to effective coordination where everyone
is working with others to realize organizational.
d. Stay positive at all costs -
At the workplace, we all have our moments of ups and downs. It is
during moments of chaos, our true self comes in open to all. People with
fear and hatred in their mind are the first ones to shed all their
responsibilities. Being positive during times of chaos and down-ride is
the biggest asset for deriving joy at work.
e. Be open to learning and relearning
- In a fast-changing work, the parameters are of success are also
changing. What worked ten years bach, may not work today. With a change
in the context of work and services offered by organizations, we need to
acquire new skills to succeed. In a changing work, stagnant skills and
attitude lead to frustration. The idea here is to be open to learn new
skills in the domain of HR management, technical areas, planning and
coordination, negotiation skills etc.
f. Help others, whenever possible
- In a deeply connected world, helping others is like helping yourself.
When we help others, without having any expectation in return, we feel
connected to the larger source of life. When we practice this art,
we enjoy larger than life experience
g. Contribute something more than your defined organizational role and goals
- When we do something more than our assigned duties at work, we feel
honoured by the invisible. It is an opportunity to see our real
potential, which is more than our problems. Taking initiatives at
workplace helps us to grow beyond our belief systems of limitations
h. Share the joy to multiply it -
In the energy world, what you give comes back to you and the more you
give, the more it comes back. When we share the goodness of work and
workplace with family, friends, colleagues etc. If we intend to
experience more joy in life, we should share the same with others. Small
moments of goodness at work should be celebrated
To
sum up, the modern day man is almost spending half of his life at work
and work-related issues. If there are stress and grief in work, we are
wasting at least half of our life. Conversely, when work is joyous, life
becomes a sweet melody. The key here is to set our goals rights, in
harmony with the reality of work and workplace as explained above. With
right goals, positive intent and the right attitude, our work can be the
potential source of fulfilling the purpose of life. When we experience
Joy at work, we are fast approaching to Moksha, the final goal of human
life.
Real Joy lies in the journey and not in destination.
