Swasthya ( Well Being) is a journey of coming of one’s self, realizing
one’s true nature. When the mind is free of all Vaysans( emotions of fear,
anger, guilt, shame), the consciousness heals everything. Our job is only to
remove the blocks that lies between the
self and consciousness.

Across the
world, people are deriving their own ways and means to fight the menace of
COVID 19. Social Distancing and washing hands have emerged as the most
effective tool to prevent the spread of the virus. Mass Social distancing in
form of lockdowns, have been practiced in almost all countries to prevent the
societal spread of the virus.
However,
the virus continues to find home at new places and group of people. No
authority in the world has a sure shot formula to prevent the spread of the
virus. For the first time, in the
history of the mankind, in-spite of all our scientific and technological
knowledge and advancements, humanity is living in a state of peril and fear.
The current
approach of fighting the COIVD crisis is based on fear. In the energy world,
life is an echo. What we give, come back to us. When we respond to any
situation with fear and doubt, the nature returns the same with many-fold
increase. When the entire action gets gripped in this trap, it results in
systematic failures. As Einstein said long back, we cannot solve the problem
with the same level of consciousness, with which we created it
Today, we,
as nations and members of humanity, need a shift in individual consciousness,
resulting in a shift in collective
consciousness. As we part of humanity must take the responsibility to shift our
thoughts, emotions and actions from the space of fear to love, selfishness to
wholeness and from doubts to clarity.
The plan for this shift in consciousness life in our Vedic treasure box. Today, we need a new lifestyle, which not only boost our immunity but also make our consciousness shift upwards. To adopt this new lifestyle, we need to break from our past notions and adopt the new ones with full vigor. This is possible only when, we understand the concept of wholeness. The conscious must be trained. We all are suffering from identify crisis resulting in doubts about purpose and goals and hence ways and means to achieve the goals.
Vedas are
the storehouse of original knowledge about self and cosmos. This knowledge is highly instinctive in nature,
acquired by awakened souls known as Rishis. These Rishis, trained their senses
and mind to look beyond the obvious. Rishs knew that our core is energy and
unless things are corrected at core level, desired effect cannot be obtained at
gross ( body) level. Rishis through the
tools of self discipline, intention of welfare for all and experience of
wholeness, derived the systems of life based on wellness, wholeness and
un-conditional love. Out of this unlimited source of wisdom, we will see
through, three systems which are highly relevant to our present context.
Ayurveda
Ayurveda,
the ancient science of wellness and holistic living, asserts that human being,
in a state of wellness is a dynamic homeostatic of energy forces operating in
our body and mind. The mental forces ( tejas and ojas), elemental energy (
vatta, pitta, kapha) and basic nature ( satva, rajas, tamas) creates the
physical body by taking nourishments from food ( Anna) and air ( Prana). All
Dis-ease is the result of the imbalance in the dynamic homeostatic of these
forces.
According
to Ayurveda, there is a software inside us which converts bread into body. The
problems creeps when the conscious mind obstructs the working of this software
in situations of stress, denial or unreasonable wants(negative thinking). Even
the modern medical science accepts that stress and continuous negative things
weaken the immunity system of the body. Keeping the mind on track through a
sense of optimism is the big boost for the immunity. It should be our goal to
not to let the conscious mind becoming an obstruction in healthy living. Almost
all auto immune disorders, comes from a dispute between conscious and sub
conscious. The conscious with its limited abilities and vision, and trying to
dominate the sub conscious, is very
often is the culprit of this war. The conscious must be trained to stop this
war.
The food we
eat, the timings, its synch with seasons is another factor which affect long
term health. The balance of physical life generating forces ( vata, pitta and
kapha) changes every hour and with seasons. As such, choice of food is very
important. Consumption of vata aggravating food at times when vata is dominant
in the body, results in imbalance. Further, more complex and processed food we
need, more energy the body consumes on breaking the food into simple nutrients.
If the maximum part of energy is consumed in breaking down of food, little is
left for regeneration and rejuvenation.
Accordingly, people with undesirable food habits are bound to have weak
immunity system.
In a
nutshell, Ayurveda tells us that with an optimist mindset and right choice of
food, we can enjoy a strong immunity system. In days to come, this is our
strongest defense against the COVID and other threats.
Yoga
Yoga is the
science of quieting the mind with the tools of posture, awareness and prana to
experience the wholeness. Yoga should not be seen as aerobics. Sage Patanjali
has defined eight limbs of Yoga ( Yama, Niyam, Asana, Pranayaam, Prathyahaar,
Dharna, Dhyaan and Samadhi). As the modern is man is obsessed with
materialistic interpretation of life, the subtle and more rigorous of aspects
of Yoga have been conveniently ignored. Those who are in business of yoga,
emphasis only on Asana and Dhyan only. Other aspects are deliberately ignored.
Yama (
external discipline or code for behaving with others) and Niyam( Internal
discipline or principles of self control) are the foundation of Yoga. Without
observing these principles in day to day life, end benefits of yoga which is
quieting of mind and experience of whole cannot be achieved. Self awareness and
self discipline is the key to start.
Practice of
Yoga free our mind from emotions of fear and illusion of separateness. Once we
know through experience that we all are interconnected and one at the core, we
cannot harm anyone. Once we have this experience of oneness, there is no
predator or prey. This is the state of Swarga of Shiva.
Reaping the
benefits of Yoga requires a sea change of ethos and beliefs. So far our daily
behavior is rooted in competition, criticism and complaining, asanas and
meditation cannot save us. Yoga is holistic living and hence cannot be
practiced in pieces.
Yagna
According
to Vedic wisdom, life is a yagna or exchange of energy. Everything we desire or
believe results in words and action, is an exchange in the energy world. The
desires of the conscious mind are processed by sub conscious and materialized
by the super conscious. In a field of 50 trillion cells, I billion neurons each
with almost 5000 connections, 70,000
thoughts per day, 7 million energy meridians controlled by 7 amplifier systems,
5 bodies) each human is complex web of energy exchange at a number of levels. When this thing is
happening for 8 billion souls on the planet, the complexity of this world can
be seen even by the laziest mind. No
human mind or super computer, which is a projection of the potential of the
human mind cannot see this whole game of energy.
In this
Yagna of life, what we give to others,
comes back to us and we cannot give what we don’t have. To give love to
others, first we must have love inside us along with a desire to give it
others. The modern materialistic life
designed only on the principle of taking has broken the operation of Yagna of
positive energy in our life. Like stagnant waters, backed by the desire to
hoard we are degrading from inside.
Nature has
designed everything on the principle of exchange. Human beings are alive and requires energy
exchange at all levels. Lack of exchange results in decay. Decay results in
weak internal energy or weak immunity system. If we continue to live against
the laws of nature, decay is inevitable.
To survive,
both individually and collectively we need to rectify and upgrade the system of exchange of energy.
Value systems and lifestyle needs to be
reworked in harmony with the laws of exchange of energy. In its absence, COVID
like Virus will continue to shake our consciousness until we either awake or
perish with ignorance.
To
conclude, the solution to the current global crisis lies in our Vedic Wisdom.
To this end, transformation is possible only with a new
understanding of self and the world and alignment of life with the principles
of Yoga, Ayurveda and Yagna. We all become what we know and what is believe.
The 21st century man must give up the
ego of being omnipotent. The presence
and power of super conscious must be accepted with open heart and mind.
The mind must be trained to understand and accept the whole.
